The 2013 CSA NYS Championship match is one for the books. A great day of weather and a fun day of riding for everyone.
Lots of spectators joined the riders at Old Bethpage Village Restoration Village for a day of horses, cowboys and shooting.
Congratulations to the 2013 New York Mounted Shooting Champion – Outlaw Jimmy Wales. It was a hard fought battle but Jimmy pulled it out to win by a narrow margin. Another congratulations to out top ladies champion “Big Red” as she flew through the courses on her Paso Fino.
Everyone did a terrific job at the match. We have come a long way! Keep up the great work.
The Rough Rider Cavalry Detachment was on hand as well. With a full encampment set up, we had a base of operations and fun for those who were able to camp overnight and join them on “moonlight recon” through the village.
Thanks to all the East End Regulators that came out to support and help us. Tombstone Bones, Cottonwood Candy, Deuces, Kandi Keri, Billy Colorado.. (I hope I didn’t miss anyone).
Of course, Sheriff AB Dupree was on hand to keep things going at the gun table. You are the best!
For those who weren’t able to stay after the cookout, you missed some “explosive” fun. Let’s just say there is more than one way to fill a balloon! Not sure I am ready to try that from horseback, but it sure is fun with a filled cup in the off-hand. ‘Nufff said. 🙂
Oh yeah… match results are available here.
The match is on for Saturday, August 24. It will be a FIVE-stage State Championship match. Custom buckles will go to top men and top ladies winners. Rifle side match is available as well.
Time permitting, we will plan to fit in an optional “Cowboy Challenge” stage with obstacles.
After the match, the Island Long Riders will be sponsoring a dinner for all participants.
The Rough Riders Cavalry unit will be joining us at the match and performing a mounted saber demonstration. Those able to stay over until Sunday can watch and participate in cavalry drills including mounted shooting, mounted saber, formation riding and more.
CSA Match starts at 11:00am on Saturday, 8/24. (Safety meeting at 10:30a).
Don’t miss the fun! Contact us with any questions.

Thanks to everyone for coming out the the Island Long Riders first match of 2013. It was a fun day with great weather.
Just as fun was the “after party” to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. There was no pink hair, but I suspect there are some strange pictures floating around which involve railroad tracks. ‘Nuf said!
Match results are available on the events & forms page.
Remember that the big regional match is coming up in Connecticut later this month. Put it on your calendar and get your registration form in today.

The Island Long Riders is pleased to announce the Same & Lee Helms of Hired Gun Horsemanship will be running a 2-day clinic with us on April 27-28.
We are working with our friend, Karl Bauer, to host the clinic at North Jersey Equestrian Center in Pompton Plains, NJ. This location will not only make the event more accessible, it will also provide for a magnificent indoor arena… no worries about weather.
The clinic will be run across Saturday and Sunday. We will start at 3pm on Saturday and run into the evening (estimated to 9 or 10pm) with a break for dinner (included in the clinic cost). The clinic will continue on Sunday morning from 8am-11am.
This is a great chance to learn from the pros, get ready for the 2013 season and bring your mounted shooting game to the next level.
Space in this clinic is very limited for both participants and auditors. If you are interested in attending, a registration form is attached. Make sure to fill out all pages – there is a form, a questionnaire and a release which must be completed.
Completed forms and payment should be sent as soon as possible. Reservations are available on a first-come, first-served basis. There has been tremendous interest in this event and we expect the slots to fill quickly.
I also ask that you contact me to let me know you are planning to attend so I can be on the look out for your forms. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would like more information.
Visit our EVENTS page to download the registration form or click here (PDF).
Our last big match of the year at scenic Hallockville Museum Farm was a great success. In addition to the riders, we had a great showing of spectators. The “Headless Horsemen” even made a surprise appearance, thrilling kids and adults alike.
Match results are now available on our forms page. Click here.
Several photographers were also on hand, including Newsday and the Riverhead Times. Here are some links to the pictures and articles:
